Yesterday I reached 2.500 handwritten pages. It may not sound so much to my esteemed, celebrated, well known, and best selling authors, but to me it is kind an achievement. A sort of accomplishment for several years of hard work. Most of it still has to be published, but is already written and I still have to reach the end of the story, that will happen sometime in 2015 as so many things are left to be told that form an important part of the story. Now all it needs is to be sold.
Every story, be it fantasy or something else, comes down to the struggle between good and evil and usually good wins in the end. It takes a lot of pages and thrilling adventure to get there, but it prevails. I’ve Always wondered about that given fact, eventhough I do the same in my own stories.
I once wrote a story where in the end it turned out that the evil was actually good, stunning the people who read it.
I’ve been reading The Magic Of Recluce by L.E. Modesitt form 1991 where he describes the fight between good and evil in different way, but it came down to to the same in the end. Why are people so fascinated by the struggle against supposedly evil? If we look at ourselves we are, on the whole, not so good. People are greedy, jealous, gossipy creatures and each side believes it is right and has good on its side. From their own point of view they are right, but from the point of view of the rest of the world they are often wrong, or are they?
In the Claws of the Earth series there is also a battle between good and evil and as I am writing the last three books I’m working slowly towards the end that is already in my mind, but I’m not quite sure if I will follow the line inside my head, maybe I will twist the story around to make the evil appear not so bad, maybe I won’t, I’m not sure yet, it will depend on how the story will develop. It is an interesting thought though.
